INTERVIEW WITH ANELA BERAR
"OXYGEN"
Maja:
Is extravagance your permanent commitment and
wherefore high fashion?
Anela: Glamour, grunge and r`n`r are the styles I`m
interested in. As well as many others. I don`t stick to one
particular style. I allow myself to be carried
by the current.
Maja: When did you start to think about fashion?
Anela: As a little girl, I saw some fashion shows of
Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood and Dolce & Gabbana.
That`s how everything got started.
Maja: What do you think of style?
Anela: Style is important in man`s
life since it`s something perceived from
the outside, but without
some energy inside,
without personality, style doesn`t exist at
all.
Maja: What`s the origin of fashion
and why does man seem to need fashion in his life?
Anela: People have their own ideas about this issue. I think
of it in the following way: the very question arises, why did people
begin to dress? Because they were cold, of course, but where did that
cold come from? The turning point was the one when Eve bit the apple
and Adam did the same, and then what happened? Man came to know of
the evil, he become aware of good and evil. Along with this, he got
the feeling of shame. This is how the wish to cover the body began
to exist. This is how we started. At that time fashion was necessity.
Now it`s art.
Maja: Is talent important?
Anela: Yes, but the most important thing is to be sure in what
you do, to have faith in it,
to love it, and, of course, to work hard.
Maja: Music, as a part
of any fashion show.
Anela: Music is very important
for me. I can`t create without music. It inspires
me, listening to the music I get visions
for my creation. Underworld, Massive Attack,
David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Bjork fit perfectly in fashion shows.
I`m not interested in music that contains shallow
emotion.
Maja: I`ve been told that you like
moving pictures. Can you tell me something about
it?
Anela: It is the kind of art that
fascinates me. Only these good films, I mean, such as "Bitter
Moon", "Twin Peaks", "Once Upon A Time In America",
"Lollita". Roman Polansky and
David Lynch have the ability to depict emotion, so truly
in distinction from many others.
Maja: How about an arrogant confidence as a result of success ?
Anela: There are
different ways in which you can succeed in this
world, but only one way is the
real one. The greatest thing of all is to sacrifice
oneself for love. However, hypocritical sharpness is appreciated
here. This is the way you usually succeed
nowadays.
Maja: What do you think of the glory of this world?
Anela: What worth one can have even if he wins over
the whole world if he loses himself or does some harm to himself...
Maja: What`s your opinion of love and passion?
Anela: Passion can seduce and you might think it`s
the very thing you need. However, passion is ephemeral while
love is eternal. As well as body without
soul is dead body, so it is love without deeds dead
love.
Maja: Some message for the end.
Anela: Eternity does exist.
